Restart Energy India Expo Goa Invites Bids for Solar Home Systems Under Remote Village Electrification Program

The State Government of Goa has decided to set up a floating solar power plant on four dams in the state and has invited expression of interest (Eol) for selection of solar power developer for setting up of a grid connected floating solar power plant at these sites, Restart Energy India will play one kind of role in this disction where all the business leaders are going to meet in this expo.

Ramakrishna “Sudin” Dhavalikar, Power Minister, stated that Goa doesn’t have a single power generation plant. Goa doesn’t generate electricity. It is dependent on Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh for its power needs. The government would create a solar policy in one month to address power shortages and then introduce it in the next two months.

He said that the government had been considering the use of solar energy for several years.

Dhavalikar also mentioned that Tamnar’s power transmission project is crucial for Goa because it will generate an additional 1,200 megawatt of power for the state.

“The Tamnar power transmission project is expected to begin after the monsoon as it is impossible to do it during the rainy seasons. Dhavalikar stated that the project will allow Goa to get 1,200 megawatts of power once it is complete.

As per the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) regulations, every State has to purchase electricity from renewable energy sources at a defined minimum percentage of the total consumption of all the consumers in each State annually.

For the financial year 2022-2023, Goa will have to purchase 18.35 per cent solar power from renewable energy sources, while the target will be increased to 19.91 per cent for the year 2023-2024. Of the 18.35 per cent, nine per cent each will be solar power and power from any other renewable energy and 0.3 per cent will be hydropower.
